Anxiety and Mental Health
Anxiety and other Mental Health conditions are a significant and often chronic problem that is almost always quite complex. Rarely is there a “silver bullet” or single treatment that resolves these conditions, and those who find long standing relief often use several modalities or approaches in combination.
The largest disservice I see medicine doing for patients with mental health concerns is that all too often a thorough history, examination, and testing to identify causative factors is never done. Very few physicians are trained or have the time to ensure that underlying factors are evaluated.
Anxiety is a great example of a condition that is a symptom and caused by any number of a large list of possibile root causes. Investigating the root cause of the symptom is the only way to truly ever fully manage it.
Ways to more fully evaluate and manage Anxiety or Mental Health conditions:
- Genetic Testing
- MTHFR and Methylation
- Neurological Autoimmune Treatment (PANDAS,PANS, Autoimmune Encephalitis)
- Nutrient Deficiencies and Diet
- Digestive Health
- Neurotransmiter Balance
- Infections like Lyme, Fungal, or Intestinal
- Envirionmental Exposures like Mold
- Orthomolecular Treatments
- Many others in my toolbox!
To note, I am not anti medications, and at times they can be a great part of a comprehensive treatment plan for a patient. I strongly believe that, if used, psychiatric medications should be used AFTER basic foundational conditions have been fully ruled out and as part of an individualized and well thought out plan.
